Lisbon Tourism |
Lisbon is one of the most cosmopolitan cities in Europe and is being discovered by more and more tourists, often drawn by ecstatic reviews and articles about the city. Direct low cost flights by carriers such as Ryanair and Easyjet have made the capital more accessible. While popular, Lisbon is still remarkably “untouristy”, most probably largely due to the very strong culture and tradition it possesses, and the steps that are taken to protect this. For example, in the very centre of the city, on some of the most desirable land in the country, one still finds literally hundreds of quaint shops that would not have survived modernisation in most other European countries: an ancient bar that serves only one specific type of liqueur, for example, or shops that sell hundreds of types of ribbons. Lisbon combines this with some of the most modern, beautiful and stylish buildings, shops, clubs and hotels one could hope to find. |
