When to go to Gran Canaria |
Because of its weather, claimed to be the best in the world, there is no right or wrong time to travel to Gran Canaria. You are guaranteed agreeable temperatures whenever you choose to go. The temperature rarely gets too hot during summer months (and if you need to cool down, water is usually close at hand), and never too cold during the winter months either - although you should pack a jumper or light jacket for when the sun goes down. The all year round appeal means resorts stay livelier than in other European holiday spots. There really is no off season. Although, as with other destinations, there are clearly defined high and low seasons. December to February is a definite high season. This is when the northern European invasion takes place, when people from colder climes visit to experience a warmer winter than the one on offer at home. Spanish visitors prefer May to October. While inland cities like Madrid are pretty inhospitable during these months, Gran Canaria offers a sea breeze to take the heat off summer. Another popular time to visit Gran Canaria is Easter, but airfares at this time and indeed throughout school holidays are higher. But if you're looking for bargain flights, November to mid December is a good time to visit, then March, April and May (excluding Easter).
