The Netherlands is a flat country with few protective barriers against the winds that can blow from all directions. This leads to its rather unpredictable weather and abrupt climate changes. Glorious summer days can suddenly be interrupted by passing showers, so it is always a good idea to come equipped with an umbrella and an extra layer of clothing. It is very rare to experience scorching days of heat in the summer and although snow is not very frequent in winter, when it does come, it makes Amsterdam a beautiful sight to behold.
